Slipping into the allegorical for a moment, if the Pelirocco was a party, it would most likely be a New Year ’s Eve celebrity wife-swapping event hosted by Melinda Messenger with music by Fatboy Slim.
For how else are we to describe a hotel housed in a grand old regency townhouse but containing 18 rooms with names like ‘Cissy Mo’s magic garden’, ‘Lenny Beige’s love palace’ and ‘Betty’s boudoir’? Needless to say, all rooms are individually designed or inspired by artists and musicians and all are absolutely (the Absolute vodka room literally so) insane.
One room has an enormous circular bed and a plunge pool. Another has bed coverings with sexually explicit encouragements, and the bloke who used to do the Sex Pistol’s album covers has decorated another. Conceived and run by a couple whose combined CV includes fashion, music and a PR, the Pelirocco is the coolest place to go and stay on the south coast.
The hotel bar is open to non residents and stays open until 1am Sundays to Thursdays and 4am Friday and Saturday. The hotel is also bang in the heart of the town, so if you’re finding the rock-slut ambiance a bit overpowering, you can go out and get stuck into Brighton’s fantastic range of bars and shops. The beach is directly opposite the front door.
You could go a very long way to find a hotel anywhere near as hip, stylish and downright rock n’ roll as this place. As you already know it’s here, you’d be pretty foolish to even try.
(The Hotel Bar now has a general license that is open to non-residents although at busy times they do limit numbers! Open until 1am Sundays to Thursdays, and until 4am Fridays/ Saturdays)
