We’re not short of Steak houses in Dubai. We’re not short of good ones either! And with no less than three offerings from Gary Rhodes in Dubai, all within spitting distance of each other, we’re not short of eateries by the charismatic restaurateur either. So what makes a trip to Rhodes Twenty10 worth the dent it will leave in your wallet?
Well – start with the signature cocktail. I want to leave it as a surprise for you to discover this divine treat for yourselves, so suffice to say there is champagne, blackish purple stuff and smoke involved… intrigued? Sip your cocktail while enjoying the luscious pink, purple and black surroundings with crisp white table cloths. It’s a decadent restaurant that likes to be known as a culinary grill with a difference.
The menu is extensive and the superbly friendly and knowledgeable waiters encouraged us to select a “sharing style” selection of food. Tapas this is not, so three starters for the two of us seemed rather greedy when the dishes arrived and I immediately began to worry about leaving room for the famed deserts. Large plates of juicy scallops speared alongside fresh prawns and a warm Sesame Glazed Duck with an orange and maple dressed salad, can’t fail to impress. The meat selection was impressive with a huge range of grills and burgers to pick from as well as pork belly, T-bones and snails. An extensive range of seafood is also available as well as plenty of veggie options too. Fish and Chips with mushy peas, a meaty Steak and ‘Kidney Pie’ and Salmon Fish Cakes, served with spinach and lemon butter sauce have become firm favourites. Typical steakhouse sides of fries, spinach, green beans, mash were well received and just the right size.
Please please please save room for desert! The best Baileys Crème Caramel ever dreamt of is too good to miss. And for the chocolate addicts among you, the Jaffa Cake sponge is dreamy – a rather large interpretation of this childhood treat that is best shared!!!
This is one of those places where you taste buds are re-awoken… almost like you never tasted food before! And before you get completely carried away praising the food and service… the bill lands on your table with a thump! Hopefully you are suitably sloshed by now not to care, or you came prepared for this not so delightful end to the meal. The waiter tried to soften the blow by serving the bill with some chocolate petit fours. I had to box these up and eat a few days later when I felt vaguely peckish again.
