The Phene

The Phene

Area: Chelsea
The Phene is a classic Chelsea townhouse that takes contemporary to a style more akin to a home than that of a gastro pub.  Stylish, welcoming and spacious the interior offers a multiple rooms catering to everyone.
The stylish saloon bar is as close to a traditional pub as it gets, go up a split level and you'll find a light and airy delicatessen that serves as a popular take away spot within the local area, the main dining room offers an a la carte menu and completing the ground floor is a a heated luxury Mediterranean style terrace offering year-round dining.  With a re-launch in January 2010 the restaurant has been packed out ever since.
For those that want to kick back and relax the first floor offers a decadent lounge in hues of rich purple and gold, with comfortable sofas and elegant bookcases - this could easily be a (very nice) lounge in someone's home.  The space makes for the perfect pit stop after a hard days shopping and doubles as a great place to meet friends after work.  And with it being owned by fashion designer Lily Bourne it should come as no surpise that The Lounge also features small collections allowing for shopping and cocktails under one roof (tick tick).  For a pub this is as female friendly as it gets.
We stopped for a late lunch and tried the sea bass and the risotto, both were cooked to perfection and couldn't be faulted.  The service was friendly, the interior is sleek and food couldn't be faulted.  It may all feel a bit shiny and new but this pub does have history, being counted as one of George Best's favourite locals.
The Phene does however find itself somewhat inconveniently located between tube stops and given it was a beautiful summer day I decided to walk from Sloane Sq, BIG mistake! If you are wearing heels my Stylebible tip is to grab a cab.
Expect to find the Chelsea set having a jolly good time.
